Restorative Practices

Our team will provide a comprehensive approach to implementing restorative practices in your unique setting. Restorative practices are a healing and self-determined way of being lived in indigenous communities around the world for generations. There are three core principles embedded in Restorative Practices. 1) cultivating strengths-based relationships, 2) repairing harm and 3) empowering voice through engaging community.

Cultivating Strengths-Based Relationships:

Relationships are developed by understanding the value of one’s humanity, how one’s values and belief systems impact engagement with others and how to use those systems to create conditions for cultivating strengths-based relationships.

Repairing Harm:

Restorative practices equip adults and children with a process to hold one another accountable when someone engages in activities that are outside of school and community values. During the process of repairing harm, those impacted use critical thinking skills to solve problems and develop an accountability plan.

School Based Implementation:

Engaging people is critical to the success of implementing restorative practices. The Restorative Practices Engagement Circle (Tolefree, 2015) is a race-equity restorative practices framework for engagement on every level of school based restorative practices implementation. The Restorative Practices Engagement Circle supports communities in the process of empowering voice and engaging in transformative action toward a more positive school culture and climate. Our Restorative Practices, Training, Coaching and Mentoring Model was developed in 2015 as a foundation to implement our framework.
